Arrest Delta Force escapees and court insurgents – GBA to IGP

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has expressed shock at reports and video recording which have gone viral alleging members of the supposed ‘Delta Force’ have attacked the circuit court in Kumasi earlier today to free 13 members of the said group who were otherwise remanded by the court.

A statement signed by the National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Benson Nutsukpui, and issued on the 6th of April, 2017, condemns in no certain terms the blatant disregard for the orders of duly constituted court of law and attack on the judge on the discharge of her lawful duties.

The GBA also noted that any system that allows an individual, group of persons or institutions to disobey order made by a court of competent jurisdictions with impunity undermines the independence of the judiciary and creates room for anarchy, chaos, and lawlessness.

The GBA has charged the Inspector-General of Police to immediately re-arrest the 13 persons ordered to be remanded, adding that a thorough investigation of the incident to ensure that all person who played any role whatsoever in the attack on the court are arrested, duly charged and prosecuted.
