DCE withdraws from NPP primaries

Ho, March 12, GNA- Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho District Chief Executive, on Friday announced his decision to withdraw from contesting the Ho-West Constituency primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The race is now between Miss Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State in-charge of Tertiary Education and Miss Esther Djeani, Director in charge of Private Basic Schools, Ghana Education Service (GES). Mr Goh told newsmen that his decision, was voluntary and to create opportunity for greater women representation in Parliament and other decision making platforms.

“After all the party provides us with the opportunity to serve” adding that ‘service could be rendered anywhere and in any capacity and not just in Parliament”, he said.

Mr Goh said he chose to announce his decision now rather than during the primaries, as has been the practice in order to afford his supporters the opportunity to reflect and decide on which of the remaining candidates to vote for.

He also explained that he was not stepping down for any of the two remaining contestants because as District Chief Executive, he would have a crucial role to play in the campaigning for any of the two who might win the primaries.
