The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has adopted an Indian Female Monk as a daughter of the Asante Kingdom, giving her the venerable title Yaa Asantewaa.

Reveling in her new name, Sri Jayanthi Kumaraswani, who is a female monk said on Morning Starr Tuesday April 4, 2017 that “Asantehene gave me the name Yaa Asantewaa on Saturday Ist April” adding “On my visit to Kumasi he [Asantehene] adopted me as a daughter of the Ashanti Kingdom.”

Shedding more light on her activities as a monk, she said at age 11 she could accurately predict what happens in the future.

“I changed my dress code when I noticed that I had divine backing,” she told host of Morning Starr, Francis Abban.

Sri Jayanthi Kumaraswami who grew up in the Southern part of India, in her attempt to demystify the mysticism that is associated with the activities of monks said they are as human as anyone.

Even though, there are few female monks in India, she said she has never had a challenge being one.
