Ghana’s premier university, Legon ranks 21st in Africa; KNUST 30th

Ghana’s premier university, University of Ghana, seems to be losing its popularity on the African continent as it drops further on the University League table.

Legon, as University of Ghana is popularly referred to, has been ranked 21st by uniRank in its latest ranking released this year.

Behind Legon is Kwame Nkrumah Technology of Science and Technology (KNUST), which ranked 30th. The top half of the League is dominated by South African universities among which are University of South Africa and University of Johannesburg.

The likes of Makere University in Uganda and University of Ibadan in Nigeria ranked higher than any of Ghana’s institutions.

Curiously, Ghana’s Legon is ranked higher than Kenya’s Kenyatta University. But a Kenyan university, University of Nairobi, is among the Top 10 on the continent.

Only Kenya and Egypt have representatives in the Top 10 with the list dominated by South Africans.
