Traditional ruler attributes indiscipline to neglect of cultural values

Kobeng (Ash), March 10, GNA- Nana Yaw Ansah-Bediako II, Kobenghene has attributed the increasing indiscipline among the youth to the neglect of society rich cultural and traditional values. He said the country’s culture and traditions have rich and noble history, which must be accorded respect and dignity.

Nana Ansah-Bediako was speaking at the annual Atwima district zonal cultural festival held at Kobeng near Mpasatia in the Atwima District on Tuesday under the theme, “Culture: A Tool for Moral Development and Discipline”.

Kobeng Basic School came first among the participating schools, which included Seidi, Mpasatia and Amanchia.

They contested in choral music, poetry recital, drum language, vocational skills exhibition, drumming and dancing.

Nana Ansah-Bediako was not happy about the adoption of western culture and lifestyles by some of the youth at the expense of the country’s rich culture and traditions and advised traditional rulers and elderly Ghanaians to launch a crusade against such practices. Mr Akuamoah Boateng, Kobeng’s Assembly member noted that, the strict adherence to the society’s culture, traditions, beliefs and values could promote discipline.

He advised eligible voters to register when the voters’ registration exercise begins on March 16 this year. Mr Baffour Asare-Bediako, an Assistant Director of Education at the Atwima district education directorate condemned the total breakdown of discipline among the youth and called for an effort to address the canker.

Mr Asare-Bediako, who deputized for Mr E. Obeng-Darko, Atwima District Director of Education advised parents to be more responsible and committed to the needs of their children.
