Farmer hacked over open defecation

A farmer has been slashed with a machete for defecating on the land of another farmer in the Eastern region.

The incident occurred at Nkrukan in the Yilo krobo district.

The badly injured farmer has been hospitalized at the Eastern regional Hospital at Koforidua.

According to a son of the victim, Clement Tetteh, he and his father were going to irrigate their vegetable farm at a nearby village at around 5am on Thursday when his father complained of a stomach upset, hence the decision to ease himself in the nearby bush.

He said, he decided to take the lead to the farm to begin work but later received information from his wife that his father had been attacked by the owner of the land on which he had gone to ease himself.

He was then rushed to the hospital where he was admitted.

According to Tetteh, his father was hacked at the neck, forehead, rib and hand by his attacker, after struggling with him while defecating.

The landowner is reported to have warned residents from defecating on his land.

The case has been reported to the Police but the suspect is at large. The Family of the victim is however not happy with the way the police in the area is handling the case.
