Fire guts room at Madina Zongo

Accra, March 10 GNA – A fire started by a lit candle gutted a living room at Madina Zongo on Friday destroying personal effects and electronic gadgets

Mr Obed Mensah, a Welder and the owner of the room, told the Ghana News Agency that his sister-in-law lit the candle during a power outage and went out.

Before long co-tenants saw a thick smoke coming from the room and they raised the alarm.

The door was forced opened but nobody could enter the room to salvage any property because of the smoke, Mr Mensah said. He said Firemen from the Legonman Fire Station led by the Station Officer; Mr Asirifi Hickson later arrived and spent about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Mr Mensah said a television set, video deck, electric fan, sewing machine, fridge; two beds with foam mattresses, a large number of women’s clothing packed in a wardrobe, were among the items destroyed.
