Deputy Minister-designate of Finance Charles Adu Boahen has refuted suggestions that he holds dual citizenship.
Asked by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu during parliament’s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, March 28, whether he was still a citizen of the United States of America, the Harvard-trained investment banker said: “I have held dual citizenship since it was first allowed under the Kufuor government and as of last year December, I started the process to relinquish or renounce my American citizenship.
“The process entailed three counselling sessions with the Head of Citizens’ Services at the American Embassy which I have been through and it culminated in me taking an oath of renunciation, which I did and surrendered my passport at that ceremony. So I can say categorically that I am no more a citizen of the United States (US).”
The son of late New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Professor Albert Adu-Boahen, is one of three Ministers-designate for Finance.
According to him, switching from the private sector to the public sector is his way of rendering national service to the country and hopes other Ghanaians in the private sector who have skills to contribute to the development of the nation will follow his footsteps.
