Tony Blair meets Akufo-Addo today

Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is scheduled to interact with Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo this afternoon on a wide range of issues.

Mr Blair is in Ghana to deliver a lecturer on: ‘Governance and Development in Africa’ on the invitation of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

Mr Blair served as Prime Minister of the UK for ten years. As Prime Minister, he made Africa a top priority by putting the continent on the G8 Agenda for the first time at the Gleneagles Summit in 2005.

He also led the negotiations that subsequently doubled aid to Africa and dropped the debt for its poorest countries.

Since leaving office, he has maintained his commitment to Africa by setting up the Africa Governance Initiative (AGI) to primarily work with African leaders to support effective government across the continent.

AGI strongly affirms that achieving effective government will drastically change the lives of African citizens.
