Chieftaincy factions clash at Suhyen

Two feuding chieftaincy factions have clashed at Suhyen in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region .

The clash led to the hurling of stones by the two factions on Sunday.

The incident occurred when the faction led by a destooled chief of Suhyen, Nana Frimpong Manso, and the Gazetted chief, Okogyeaman Ankomah Basapon, all decided to celebrate the Akwasidae.

No casualty was recorded.

The situation has raised tension in the traditional community. Armed police officers from the Effiduase District Police Command led by the district commander, DSP Daniel Yaro, have stormed the town to maintain peace and order.

The protracted chieftaincy dispute in Suhyen has led to several clashes and injuries in previous incidents.

Nana Frimpong Manso was destooled years ago after he abdicated the seat for greener pastures abroad.

However, upon his return to Ghana, he has continued to parade himself as chief of the area.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Suhyen who doubles as the Mponuahene of the New Juaben traditional area, Okogyeman Ankomah Basapon, is appealing to the IGP to reassign the township under a different Police Command due to the lost of confidence in the Effiduase district Police Command.
