Producers and Practitioners of Alternative Medicines in Ghana are advocating to government to consider setting up a council to regulate activities of members as in other fields.
The Director of C4C Homeopathic Hospital, Dr. Micheal Kwadwo Kyeremanteng at the launch of the Homeopathic Health Insurance Scheme at its Adenta Office in Accra, observed that the Ministry of Health has established a council for traditional medicine producers but has no council for alternative medicine producers thus making the work of alternative medicine producers very difficult.
“We need a council that can cater for alternative medicine properly. We have been added to traditional medicine producers but that is not the practice the world over. The fact we have been put together with traditional medicine producers it makes the regulations difficult. There is no a representation on the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) representing our interest”, he revealed.
To this end he appealed to the government and its agencies to work towards establishing a council to superintend over its affairs to improve on healthcare delivery in the country.
He also called on government to take a second look at registration fees paid by alternative medicine producers since it is too expensive.
According to Dr. Kyeremanteng the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) charge alternative medicine producers $3,600 for registration an amount he described as killing to the practice.
The hospital has also partnered the India Government to promote Homeopathic treatment in Ghana.
