Nkawie District rewards outstanding teachers

Nkawie (Ash), March 6, GNA – The Atwima District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), on Saturday presented awards to its 12 best teachers and three non-teaching staff for 2003 as part of activities marking Ghana’s 47th Independence Anniversary celebration at Nkawie.

Miss Ophelia Okani Wiredu of the Sepaase Local Authority Junior Secondary School was adjudged the over all district best teacher and presented with a 20-inch colour television and a certificate. The other award winners also received gas cookers, refrigerators and certificates.

Addressing the parade of school children, students and voluntary organisations, Mr Charles Yeboah, District Chief Executive, said the District Assembly would continue to sponsor nursing, teacher training students and others in various institutions who would be bonded to serve in the district.

Mr Yeboah said the assembly had completed the Ghana Education Service (GES) Administration Block and would soon assist the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the district to put up their office accommodation. Among those at the parade were chiefs, heads of departments and religious leaders.
