Porter jailed five years for stealing

Accra, March 4, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced a porter to five years’ imprisonment for stealing ladies’ footwear valued at 18 million cedis.

Nuktar Dauda, Porter, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

His accomplice, Jiblim Razak, Trader, who pleaded not guilty to dishonestly receiving stolen items, was remanded to re-appear on March 10.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), R. A Aganiba told the court presided over by Mr Williwise Kyeremeh that the complainant is a trader at Okaishie, while Dauda has been assisting her in her shop.

DSP Aganiba said due to the regular assistance Dauda offered the Trader, he became close to her, and as a result, the trader used to send him to convey goods from the warehouse at Okaishie. Prosecution said on February 27 at about 2300hours a Police Patrol team intercepted Dauda carrying a fertilizer sack that contained 81 pairs of ladies footwear and sent him to the Police Striking Force Unit.

DSP Aganiba said when Dauda was searched, a bunch of keys were found on him.

Upon interrogation, he admitted to have duplicated the keys to the warehouse, adding that he had on three occasions stolen 243 ladies shoes from the warehouse.

Prosecution said on two occasions Dauda gave the stolen items to his brother, who in turn sent them to Razak to be sold. DSP Aganiba said the Police traced Razak to his shop and retrieved similar brands of the stolen footwear in the shop.
