Metro Mass bus catches fire at Kasoa

A Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number GR 5182-15 was completely burnt by fire on Wednesday, March 22.

The fire on the Cape Coast-bound bus started when the vehicle got to Opeikuma junction and the 35 passengers on bound had to alight to escape the heat.

It took the intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to douse the inferno.

A passenger travelling on the bus told Accra FM that the bus took off from Kaneshie and the engine went off when the vehicle got to Sakaman junction.

“However, the driver did not get down to check the reason for the car’s sudden stop. When he started the engine, there were strange noises from the tyres but we still continued the journey. When we got to the [Opeikuma] junction, one tyre burst, so all the passengers decided to alight. Few minutes later, thick smoke started emerging from beneath the bus. When we checked, it was fire,” he narrated.

According to him, most of the luggage were retrieved from the car and no passenger was hurt in the incident, but the vehicle was completely burnt.
