Former Mayor flays President’s pick for AMA for describing his actions as ‘crude’

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South has chided the President’s nominee for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mohammed Adjei Sowah for describing his attempts at getting hawkers off the streets of Accra as crude.

Alfred Okoe Vandepuije said the new Mayor should not be in a hurry to condemn him but wait to assume office to appreciate some of the actions he took as mayor of Accra.

Speaking to GhOne’s, Kafui Dey, the former AMA boss admonished his successor not to berate him for some of his actions but rather concern himself with how he will handle issues at his new post.

“When he steps into the game, he will learn the rudiments of how he will succeed. Instead of taking a jab at me, he should focus on what he will do. I have done my part and now I’m gone. I wish him well and I hope he succeeds”. Oko Vanderpuije said

Mr Oko Vanderpuije also played down claims that he executed his responsibilities as the AMA chief with an iron fist. He denied using ‘rough and crude’ tactics to run the Assembly.

During his reign as the AMA boss the law maker for Ablekuma South was constantly in the news for perpetrating acts such as ordering ‘okada’ drivers to kneel down, going after drivers who misbehaved and sometimes usurping the duty of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service by directing traffic but he believes those moves were made for the betterment of the city.

Mohammed Adjei Sowah was appointed by the President to head the AMA and Hon. Oko Vanderpuije believes that its only a matter of time that inhabitants of the Assembly will see how his successor will deal with the problems that may confront him.
