Hotel in Koforidua faces court action for stealing water; asked to pay GHC13,950

A hotel in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, which has been stealing potable water from the Ghana Water Company for three years, faces legal action over a GHC13,950-bill The hotel, Passo Lodge, was disconnected in December 2014 for its failure to pay water bills totaling GHC 1,600 but officials on Thursday detected it had illegally reconnected the facility to the pipelines of the Ghana Water.

This was during a loss control exercise embarked on by officials of the Ghana Water Company in Koforidua to uncover illegal connections Officials of the Ghana Water Company have meanwhile issued a bill of GHC13, 950 to the management of Passo Lodge to pay or face court action.

The Ghana Water Company said illegal connection contributes to a chunk revenue loss estimated at 46 per cent. Head of the Lost Control Unit of the Ghana Water Company, Moses Addae Boateng ,explained customers who have defaulted in payment of bills have a window of opportunity to negotiate with the company on terms of settlement of areas.

He said it is an illegal act for any customer who has been disconnected to reconnect water to their facilities themselves. Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Water Company, Kwaku Daase, urged the general public to offer information to enable it track those engaged in water stealing, assuring them of handsome reward.
