What is happening to black pens? – Ama Ata Aidoo asks GES

Ama Ata Aidoo, one of Ghana’s extraordinaire writer’s has queried the Ghana Education Service and its ministry on the ban of the use black pens throughout the education system.

The “Anowa” famed writer said the ban is an unnecessarily monstrous damper on creative writing.

“I would like us to look at the ban on the use of black pens throughout the education system here in Ghana which is an unnecessarily monstrous damper on creative writing in all its forms. Equals we are putting the Ministry of Education and GES on notice to explain themselves what is happening to black pens”, she added.

She said this today March 16, 2017, at the launch of the Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing at the African University College of Communication.

The Centre which has been named after her is one of the six (6) learning centers of the school which will be dedicated to training creative writers.

The Director of the Centre, Nii Ayekwei Parkes in his address expressed joy about the Centre and the decision to name it after Ama Ata Aidoo.

“It is an honour because directing a Centre named after Ama Ata Aidoo, who remains one of Ghana’s most versatile writers, is a huge responsibility. It gives me something to live up to”, he said.

Dignitaries present to grace the occasion includes Pro. Nketiah, Hon. Dzifa Gomashie, Prof Kojo Yankah, M.anifest, Akosua Hanso not forgetting Nigeria’s Lola Shoneyin, Kinna Likimani, Ama Ata Aidoo’s daughter, chiefs and many others.
