Toase (Ash), Feb.29, GNA – The Toase sub-traditional council has launched a 500 million cedis Education Endowment Fund to offer scholarships and bursaries to brilliant but needy students and also improve and provide more educational infrastructure to promote quality education in the area.
Thirty-two million cedis has so far been realized through a special flat levy of 10,000 cedis per resident citizens, 40,000 cedis and 20,000 cedis per non-resident male and female citizens respectively with the major contribution from royalties and other revenue from the traditional council sources.
Nana Asiama Poku Afirifa 11, Toasehene disclosed this at the traditional council meeting with officers from the Quality Improvement in Primary Schools (QUIPS) and Community School Alliance (CSA) project after three-days re-mobilisation exercise to evaluate the School Performance Improvement Plan (SPIP) of Toase Roman Catholic Primary School at Toase in Atwima district on Friday.
More than 105 persons, including 50 primary school pupils, 40 Junior Secondary School (JSS) pupils, 15 Senior Secondary School and five University students, last year, benefited from the fund.
Nana Poku Afirifa said two million cedis was given to the teachers as incentives to motivate them to improve upon their performance and the traditional council also donated 10 million cedis to support the contribution of parents towards evening and extra classes. He said, the community is putting up a laboratory to accommodate the four computers and their accessories donated to the local primary school by the Toase Saint Peter’s Catholic Parish.
Plans, he said, are also advanced to put up four units teachers living accommodation and a one-storey six unit classroom block to absorb more school-going children in the area.
Nana Poku Afirifa was, however, not happy about some parents who allow their children to patronize video and other entertainment centres at the expense of their studies and advised parents to supervise their children’s studies at home.
Mr Joshua Baidoo, leader of the QUIP/CSA team commended the Toase sub-traditional council and the community for their immense support towards the improvement and development of education in the area and called on other school communities to emulate. 29 FEB. 04
