NDC government spent recklessly – Imihere

The erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration was marked by irresponsible expenditure, financial journalist Toma Imihere has said.

Mr Imihere, however, indicated that it was a positive move by the past government to institute measures to correct its reckless expenditures few days before leaving office, having lost the 2016 elections.

Mr Imihere, who was contributing to a discussion on the recent budget presented to parliament by the Finance Minister on Citi FM’s The Big Issue, said: “2012, 2013 [and] part of 2014, it was reckless expenditure.

“They have been trying to correct it since then and they have done very well and I really commend government in the latter stages; they reinvented themselves in that aspect.”

For him, the structure of the maiden budget of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is that “while it is addressing the constraints for growth in terms of incentives for business and employment that has been done correctly, it has not addressed the effects of fiscal taxation framework on exchange rates”.
