NDC Ablekuma Central elects parliamentary candidate

Accra, Feb. 28, GNA – Mr Joshua Alabi, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Saturday said the party would win 18 out of 22 seats in the region in the 2004 general election.

He, therefore called on NDC supporters to register in their numbers when the voters’ register was opened to enable them to exercise their franchise.

Mr Alabi was addressing a meeting of members of the NDC Ablekuma Central constituency to elect a candidate for parliamentary election for the area on Saturday.

The candidate elect, Mr Basha Hasey got 182 votes out of 302 registered members, followed by Mrs Princess MacCarthy who had 93 votes. Mr Attuquaye Quaye the third contestant got three votes.

Mr Hasey said the people had realised that he was the only candidate who wrestle power from the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Okuley Nortey, hence his nomination.

He called for unity and cooperation from party members to ensure victory for the NDC in the forthcoming polls.

Mr Theophilus Chaie, constituency secretary, commended the delegates for ensuring a peaceful election and congratulated the other contestants for accepting defeat.
