It was an ‘accident, not suicide’ – Akuafo Hall JCR President

Jennifer Nyarko of the University of Ghana died as a result of an accident and not suicide, Akuafo Hall President Yuri Nyamful has told Class News.

The level 400 student was alleged to have jumped from the balcony of the Akuafo Hall to her death two days ago after having been in seclusion for days and avoiding lectures.

While some speculations have it that she was tormented by a mental disorder which caused her to jump, other accounts say a heartbreak got her so depressed that she committed suicide.

Ms Nyarko was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Legon Hospital.

The police are investigating the matter but the leadership of Akuafo Hall, where the deceased resided on campus insists its preliminary investigations point to an accident rather than suicide.

Mr Nyamful told Jonas Ofori Yeboah on 12Live on Friday that the suicide speculations have no basis. He, however, said they are yet to unravel what led to the accidental fall.
