Akufo-Addo names Accra, Kumasi mayors

President Akufo-Addo has nominated the Greater Accra Regional secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mohammed Adjei Sowah as the Mayor of Accra.

Iddrisu Musah popularly known as Musah Superior has been nominated as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale while Anthony KK Sam and Osei Assibey Antwi have been nominated to head the Sekondi/Takoradi and Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies respectively.

Their nomination is subject to the approval of their respective assemblies.
Ahead of his nomination, Sowah had received intense rejection from party faithful, however, he received massive backing from the regional minister Ishmael Ashitey.

Ashitey told the Daily Guide newspaper that Sowah “has the solution to the problems facing Accra.”

He believes that Sowah has the qualities to change the face of Accra better than any other candidate who is vying for the position, adding, “For Adjei Sowah’s own is nonnegotiable.”

“I have Adjei Sowah. He is a very young man. I can tell you I have worked with so many people but that guy is phenomenal; he knows what he is about. I believe that when he takes over AMA, we are going to change the assembly.

“…I will stand up and tell everybody what I think about him. I support him 100 percent. AMA is the biggest metropolis that we have. All the problems in Ghana start from there. We have brought people with big beard, old people, but we have not been able to find solution to the problems. Age does not mean anything but what is in the brain,” he said of Musah.
