Pensioners ready to stage massive demo

..as government is yet to pay their gratuity

Pensioners in Ghana are increasingly growing impatient with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for keeping their gratuity lump sum in hostage for months rendering them financially incapacitated.

According to information available to this reporter, pensioners who retired [mostly from the security services] in the last quarter of 2016 have not been paid their gratuity and their monthly salaries for five months now.

“Our governments have no respect for pensioners. Can you believe that I have not received my gratuity, though I retired in October 2016?” a pensioner who spoke to this reporter on anonymity quizzed.

“What is more disgusting is that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department have even not contacted us to tell us what has accounted for this unfortunate delay.” he said.

“I guess you can count the number of us who are here to inquire about our monies. We shall soon hold a meeting and come out with our next line of action which is going to be a fierce demonstration in Accra,” he added.

An investigation at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, however, reveals that they are having a serious challenge with their payment software hence their inability to pay the pensioners on time.

The Controller and Accountant General’s Department could not also assure this reporter when this software problem could be rectified in other for them to start the payments.
