Mass movement of animals banned, anthrax outbreak

A ban has been placed on the slaughtering and transportation of animals within eight-kilometer radius of Ho following the outbreak of anthrax in Ho, the Volta regional capital. The public is therefore advised against consumption of meat in the Ho township. Dr Raphael Folitse, Volta regional head of disease diagnosis of the vertinary announced this in Ho today. He advised that no domestic animals should be slaughtered for both domestic and public consumption without approval from the vertinary office. Dr Folitse said anthrax attacks all warm blooded animals and does not show any warning signs in animals except sudden death. He said those who dress the carcass of anthrax infested animals are most at risk. JOYFM
