Private legal practitioner and a member of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDCs) legal team, lawyer Abraham Amaliba has disputed claims that former President John Dramani Mahama was committed in retrieving the GHC 51.2 million judgment debt paid businessman Alfred Woyome.
His comments follows claims by some anti-corruption campaigners and lawyers including Maurice Ampaw that, the former NDC administration led by Mr. Mahama was not committed in retrieving the money.
Speaking in an interview with South African Power FM, the former president said, the former Attorney-General (A-G) Marietta Brew-Opong “pursued this matter diligently” resulting in the decision by Mr Woyome to refund some of the money.
He said, his administration used “legal means to try and protect the interest of Ghanaian people” in their attempt to get the money. But lawyer Ampaw in an interview with Rainbow Radio slammed the former president over his comments stating that, the NDC deliberately freed Woyome and prevented him from paying the money.
According to him, functionaries of government of the former NDC defended Woyome and made claims that he was due the money paid him.
But lawyer Amaliba has disagreed with his colleague lawyer indicating that, the previous administration did their best and pursued the case diligently as the former president said.
The NDC he stressed was committed hence those claiming that we were not committed are being unfair. Due process was followed, he added.
