Robber fate hangs

An Accra Circuit Court yesterday deferred sentencing of a young man, who attacked and robbed a 19-year-old of his GH¢1,000 stashed in his underwear.

The accused, Kwabena Gyimah and two others, who are on the run, are reported to have on February 9, 2017, at the Odawna Railways in Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra conspired to rob and robbed one Emmanuel Arthur.

Kwabena, according to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector K. Adu, also robbed the victim of his headphone worth GH¢35.

Appearing before trial judge, Aboagye Tandoh, the accused admitted the charge of conspiracy and denied that of robbery.

The court subsequently remanded the accused into police custody until March 8, 2017 for sentencing.

The prosecution said that the accused lives with his mother at Awudome Estates in Accra while the accused, who is unemployed, has no place of abode.

On the said day, Emmanuel, who was assisting his mother to sell her cooked rice at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and later decided to relax at about 3 pm.

The victim, as a result, hid the sales in his underwear and also put a headphone on his head.

The accused and his two accomplices attacked Emmanuel, forcibly opened his zip and stole the said amount in his underwear together with the headphone.

After the act, the accused person’s accomplices bolted with the money, but Kwabena assaulted Emmanuel during an attempt to arrest him in order to free himself, but he was overpowered and sent to the Neoplan Police Station.

The accused, in his caution statement, admitted stealing the money and not the headphone.
