Cape Coast, Feb. 20, GNA – The Central Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Aaron Offei on Thursday called on the various health institutions in the region to develop the areas that they have comparative advantage to ensure sound health delivery in the region. He said the Ghana Health Services (GHS) would only achieve its aims and objective if health workers were ready to learn and share their experiences with others.
Dr Offei was speaking at the “Central Regional GHS 2003 Awards” held at Cape Coast to climax the celebration of the first anniversary of the GHS under the theme “Eat Well, Stay Health and Live Long.” He said health delivery is based on team work, commitment and dedication to duty and commended the staff for their efforts, stressing that even with the limited human and material resources they had been able to deliver their duties successfully.
In all, 20 awards were given to individuals and institutions and prizes ranging from refrigerators, ghetto blasters, television sets, blenders, gas cookers and cash.
Mr Peter Deiter, a Senior Technical Officer, won the best regional health management team member award, while Alhaji Yahaya, a Senior Medical Assistant won the best district health management team member award.
Mrs Mary Boakye a community health nurse took the best community health officer award, and Mrs Mercy Adu senior community health nurse took the sub district best worker award.
Mrs Alberta Agatha Koufie a staff midwife won the best reproductive health worker award and Mr Obeng Danso was adjudged best practicing paramedic, while Mrs Henrietta Amponsah Tenkorang staff nurse-midwife won the Director General’s special award.
In the institutional sector, Dunkwa Government Hospital was adjudged the best district hospital with Kyekyewere Health Centre winning the best organised health centre, while the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District took the best performing district health management team and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District took the maternal mortality special award.
Madam Leticia Araba-Mensah, member of the Regional Health Management Committee, who presided said the awards should motivate the winners to perform even better and urged those who did not win any awards not to be discouraged but work harder to enable them also win awards next year. 20 Feb. 04
