Storm hits two communities in Atwima

Seidi (Ash), Feb 19, GNA – A severe rainstorm on Saturday hit Seidi and Kobeng in the Atwima District of Ashanti and destroyed about 30 houses and rendered a number of people homeless.

The storm ripped off the roofs of about 30 houses and destroyed property worth several millions of cedis. There were, however, no casualties.

According to Mr Akuamoah Boateng, Assemblyman for Seidi-Kobeng, the storm hit the towns when most of the people were attending funerals. He appealed to the Atwima District Assembly and the district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to come to the aid of the victims. When the Ghana News Agency visited the two communities to ascertain the extent of damage, it was found that most of the communities were staying with friends and relatives.
