Bribery saga: Working with my accusers is traumatic – Osei-Owusu

The Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joe Osei-Owusu, has admitted it will be difficult for him to get in the right frame of mind and chair the vetting process Thursday, after being hit with the ‘mischievous’ claims by the NDC MPs in the alleged bribery scandal.

Appearing before a five-member ad hoc committee formed by the Speaker of Parliament to probe the bribery allegation, Joe Osei Owusu told the ad hoc committee on its first public hearing Wednesday, February 15 that he is not guilty of the bribery allegations leveled against him.

He said the matter was fabricated, per the North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s own testimony given in a conclave that suggested that the issue was a move only intended to equal bribery allegation made against former President John Mahama.

Speaking in an interview Wednesday night, February 15, 2017, on State of Affairs on GHOne TV, the Bekwai MP said it was a challenge for him to cope and work in harmony with the two minority members seeking to nail him at all cost in the bribery scandal.

“It’s very difficult for me, gotten into this banter to go and sit at the committee and pretend that nothing is happening.

“…because I’m required to be fair as a person chairing the committee; I’ve no choice. But it is really difficult to look at people who are being so mischievous.

“The difficulty is that tomorrow I’m going to preside again with these same persons and I’m supposed to treat them fairly; It is very difficult, but i’m supposed to live above board.”
