Contractor abandons Government’s Community SHS project over nonpayment

A contractor working one of the 200 Community Day Senior High Schools initiated by the preivous National Democratic Congress (ND) government at Kpalbe in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region has started carting materials from site over the nonpayment of accrued debt.

Management of A&R Hatoum Limited, the company contracted to build the E-Block in the area, last Wednesday and Thursday literally packed out of site accusing government of failing to pay for certificates raised corresponding to work executed.

They however declined comment when reached to explain further by reporters from mynewsgh.com for their action.

The Assemblyman for Kpalbe Electoral Area Anass Karim who corroborated the action of the construction firm said “the project is still at the foundation level and they are leaving the site. I don’t know why government refused to pay them. Similar projects in other areas have been completed and ready to admit students but our case is very pathetic”.

According to him, the contractor initially started packing blocks from the project site only to continue with the wooden boards when the entire project is just less than 20% complete.

To this end, he appealed to government to pay what may be due the contractor and compel him to relocate to site in order to complete the project on schedule.
