Ve-Deme launches 3.5 million-cedi scholarship scheme

Ve-Deme, (V/R), Feb. 16, GNA – A 3.5 million-cedi scholarship scheme for teachers, and pupils of Ve-Deme in the Hohoe District was launched at the weekend.

Known as the Jane Etse Martin Memorial Scholarship, one teacher, 11 JSS students, 10 primary pupils and 11 kindergarten children would benefit from the scheme each year.

A recipient teacher would receive one million cedis, each JSS student, 100,000 cedis, a Primary School Pupil, 80,000 cedis, and a kindergarten child, 50,000 cedis each.

Mrs Georgina Lorenz and her brother Mr Michael Kumah instituted the scheme in memory of Mrs martin, a citizen of the town who died early this year.

According to the initiators of the scheme, 50 per cent of the recipients should be female.

Launching the scheme, Mrs Lorencz said it was their modest contribution towards the improvement of education in the area.
