Wa, Feb. 16, GNA – The Wa Police have arrested a 26-year-old Manager of Golden Aid Investment Club and First Vision Susu Family, for defrauding 865 people of a total of A2513.2 million cedis at Wa. The Manager, Mr. Chrysantus Joseph Nwaanyun, is said to have defaulted in the payment of matured contributions due his clients scattered all over the region.
Police Inspector Daniel Dorkpoh, Regional Public Relations Officer, of the Regional Police Command, who revealed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Monday, said the police had intensified activities to arrest the Managing Director of the Company, who is based in Accra.
He said a group of customers last November reported to the police that by the company had defrauded them of various sums of money and that their investigations had revealed that most of them who had contributed up to the maturity stage of six months had not received their capital amounts, not to talk of the interest.
Inspector Dorkpor said police investigations also revealed that anytime Mr Nwaanyun collected money from his clients he transferred it into the Accra accounts of Mr. Ernest Agbemor Yeboah, Managing Director of the Company.
As a result, the manager said it became difficult to settle their indebtedness as most of the contributions matured without any money to pay them.
He said several appeals to his Managing Director to release money to pay the customers fell on deaf ears thereby giving them the opportunity to report their plight to the police. Inspector Dorkpoh said the Regional Manager had been released on police enquiry bail, while investigations were being carried out to arrest the Managing Director.
He appealed to the public against transacting business with some of these unaccredited non-banking financial institutions as they could be defrauded.
“Their early transactions may be seen to be booming, but at the latter part they end up duping their clients” he added.
