Mason jailed 20 years for defilement

Cape Coast, Feb. 13, GNA- A 35-year-old mason was on Friday sentenced to a 20-year jail term by a circuit court at Cape Coast, for defiling a 10-year-old class three pupil.

Kwame Quansah, who is married, pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Hope Azasoo told the court presided over by Mr. Mustapha Logoh that, on December 2, last year the parents of the victim went out and left her in the care of her elder brother. He said at about 0930 hours, the convict, who was then working on a building near the victim’s house, asked her to give him some water to drink.

Inspector Azasoo said immediately the girl entered their kitchen, Quansah followed her, covered her mouth with his left hand and forcibly had sex with her and warned her not to disclose it to anyone, after giving her 500.00 cedis.

He said the girl reported her ordeal to her mother as soon as she got home and she in turn informed the police who issued a medical form for the girl to attend hospital.

The prosecutor said, the girl was taken to the Assin Fosu hospital where it was confirmed that she had been defiled.
