NPP Youth lock SADA office

A group of young people in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, believed to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have sealed off the office of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

The group, said to be numbering over 200, allegedly went to the SADA office and forcibly evacuated the staff from the building.

The head of Human Resource Department said the office locks were broken by the youth who forced the manager out of her office.

They threatened to beat the human resource manager, alleging that she took some documents from her office which they found suspicious and ordered her to send them back, which she did.

When DAILY GUIDE went to the scene, the youth who invaded the SADA office were seen going round the building and locking up the entire offices with padlocks.

The presence of the security personnel who were deployed to the scene could not stop the rampaging youth from their operation.

After they had evacuated the workers from the building, they took the police round the offices and showed them the properties of the Authority, indicating that they did not take anything from the building.

The group handed over the keys of the building to the police and warned them not to allow the staff of SADA to enter the various offices.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the secretary of the youth group, Idris Abdul Hack, said the group consisted of various NPP youth groups in the region and that they were trying to protect government properties and not for their personal interests.

He indicated that the group was not happy about the operations of SADA saying, “The authorities must investigate the operations of SADA and its management.”

ASP Appraku of the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) Unit of the Northern Regional Police Command told DAILY GUIDE that they received calls about the incident and so they deployed personnel to the scene to provide security for the workers.

He stated that checks at the premises indicated that no damages had been caused neither had anything been stolen.

“Our personnel will remain here until further notice to make sure that there’s enough security to protect lives and properties.”
