Manhyia observes 80 days of Asantehemaa’s death today

The Manhyia Palace in Kumasi of the Ashanti region will be observing the 80days of the death of the Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II on Monday February 2017.

The thirteenth queen mother who was buried with gold ornaments died on November 14, 2016.

Some rituals will be performed by the chief priest and later some chiefs of Asante extraction and the public will pass through the Palace to commiserate with the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei II.

The queen mother of the Asante kingdom was buried on January 19, 2017 after a weeklong burial rites amidst rich Asante culture and an imposed curfew which was observed by residents in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The ban on noise making, drumming, funerals was lifted after the burial of the queen mother who aged 111.

It is likely the next queen mother will be nominated today by the Palace and outdoored during the next ‘Akwasidae’.
