Otiko Afisa Djaba, Minister-designate of Gender, Children and Social Protection assumed a defiant posture during her vetting by the Appointments Committee of parliament, Kwame Jantuah, a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has said.
Ms Djaba during the vetting refused to apologise to former president John Mahama following her description of him as “evil” during the electioneering period.
Her posture, among others, has led to the Minority MPs voting against her nomination, compelling the committee to defer to Tuesday February 7 a decision on her approval.
Commenting on this matter on TV3’s New Day programme on Saturday February 4, Mr Jantuah said: “Morality is the fabric of every society. The moment building blocks of morality break, it leads to chaos and for me that is the first key. Forget the position, forget everything. You should be able to portray a certain character when you have been given a position.
“It is unfortunate Otiko hasn’t learned from her own leader. Why do I say that? In 2012, if looked at the posture of His Excellency Akufo-Addo when he actually quoted the ‘all-die-be-die’ mantra and his posture, did it not put people off? What did the court of public opinion say then?
“She should have learned from him. Comparing Nana Addo in 2012 and comparing Nana Addo in 2016, he is a totally different person and that was one of the things that made Ghanaians get attached to him. His utterances and the way he spoke brought people together and that was what Ghanaians were looking for. I believe that Otiko’s posture was defiant.”
