UW/R: Epilepsy & seizure cases on the rise

Officials in the Upper West Region have expressed worry about the increase in epilepsy and seizure cases.

The region according to health officials recorded 8,051 cases at various health facilities.

In order to reduce cases, stakeholders have being urged to embark on educational programmes on issues relating to mental health.

This came to light when the regional director of health services in the region Dr. Winfred Ofosu addressed the 2016 annual review meeting of the Mental Health Authority in Wa on Thursday.

Dr. Ofosu further bemoaned the breakage of the extended family system in the country which used to support people who suffer from epilepsy.

He called on families to support people who suffer seizure and epilepsy.
