Agona Duakwa (C/R), Feb. 10, GNA – The Chiefs and people of Agona Duakwa in the Agona District of the Central Region, have instituted measures to out down the cost of funerals in the area.
Under the measures, one funeral would be allowed every month in the town, while wake-keepings should not be held after mid-night. Nana Kojo Amuakwa V, Chief of Agona Duakwa, speaking on Sunday at a joint harvest and thanksgiving service under the theme: “Let Us Rise and Build” organised by the Local Council of Churches in aid of a streetlight project, said the time had come for Ghanaians to stop spending too much on funerals.
He called on them rather to invest in the education of their children to enable them to become useful future leaders and advised women to stop purchasing expensive cloths and to use the money to supplement the training of their children.
Nana Amuakwa deplored the attitude of some men who defiled minors and warned that people caught to have settled such cases out of court would be reported to the Police and urged the youth against indiscriminate sex to avoid contracting the HIV/AIDS disease. The Chief appealed to parents to stop going to fight teachers who disciplined their children.
