One-house, one-toilet will be one of my goals – Joseph Kofi Adda

Minister-designate for Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda has intimated that the availability of toilet facilities at every household will mitigate open defecation that has resulted in the widespread diseases like cholera.

According to the nominee, the inadequacy of toilet facilities may compromise the country’s sanitation efforts if not given the needed attention.

Responding to questions from the Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr. Adda noted that his government will speed up efforts to end open defecation.

Ghana has been performing poorly with sanitation coverage of only 15 percent – making the practice of open defecation a key sanitation challenge.

The country has also been ranked second after Sudan in Africa for open defecation, with five million Ghanaians not having access to any toilet facility.
