Communities in Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma to get boreholes

Kuntanase (Ash), Feb. 9, GNA – Fifty-three communities in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district of Ashanti are to benefit from 99 boreholes that would be sunk this year.

Mr Mark Tachie, District Officer in-charge of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (WASAN), who disclosed this in an interview with the GNA at Kuntanase on Friday, said the boreholes would cost 4.6 billion cedis.

He said the project, which would be funded by the government of Ghana and the International Development Agency, was expected to be complete in June this year.

Mr Tachie said it was the wish of WASAN to provide reliable water supply to all communities under its operations and be financially independent.

He, however, regretted that some district assemblies and communities did not recognise the importance of the Agency.

Mr Tachie said WASAN could be financially independent and sustainable through long term planning and monitoring of the functioning of the pumps to take corrective actions to control the overall performance of the pumps.
