Residents expressed concern about human excreta disposal

Kumasi, Feb. 9, GNA- Buokrom residents in Kumasi have expressed concern about the indiscriminate disposal of human excreta dislodged from the community’s public toilet near the premises of Buokrom Basic School.

They expressed fears that there could be an epidemic at the school and the surrounding areas if the situation was not swiftly contained. Nana Anthony Nsiah, Chairman of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) who led newsmen to inspect the deplorable site on Friday, said persistent appeals to the authorities to stop the practice had yielded no positive results.

They have therefore appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Waste Management Unit to immediately intervene to save the community from imminent epidemic outbreak and the bad scent from the site.

He noted that effective teaching and learning could only thrive in a healthy and serene environment and pleaded that the situation must be well addressed.

Nana Nsiah appealed to the KMA to help the community to roof a two-unit extra classroom block put up by the PTA to accommodate pupils who are crammed in the classrooms.

“The teachers find it difficult to cope with the extra large enrolment in the classrooms”, he stressed and pleaded for prompt assistance from the KMA.
