Akufo-Addo launches Gh@60 C’ttee today

President Nana Addo Dankawa Akufo-Addo will today, Thursday 26 January inaugurate a committee to take charge of Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary.

Ghana will celebrate 60 years of independence from British colonial rule in March and the committee is expected to be tasked with all activities to mark the celebration.

Former president John Agyekum Kufuor, a decade ago, set up a secretariat to take charge of activities and festivities when Ghana celebrated its golden jubilee. It was headed by Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby.

It is recalled that on 6 March 1957 at 12 a.m., Ghana’s first Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah declared the Gold Coast an independent country from the British. The country was later renamed Ghana.
