Angry residents chase out Chinese illegal miners

Aggrieved residents of Sewfi-Mafia a farming community in the Sewfi-Juaboso district of the Western region, have has chased out three (3) illegal Chinese miners and their Ghanaian counterpart from mining in their only source of drinking water in the Mafia community.

According Nana Awua, a former assembly member for Mafia electoral area, the youth received information on some Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian of planning to mine in the only source of drinking water.

The angry youth subsequently massed up and upon reaching the scene they spotted the Chinese and a Ghanaian prospecting in the Amoaya River.

“It is not true we have beaten them. They actually came here but they wanted to destroy our water body but we could not allow that to happen so we chased them away. They have left the town and left behind their equipment and we have handed them over to the chief”, Nana Awuah indicated.

He revealed that the police in the area have been notified in the wake of efforts by the community watchdog to safeguard the only source of water body from destruction.
