Police arrest 2 for possessing ‘wee’

The Mile 7 police have arrested two men for allegedly possessing leaves suspected to be Indian hemp popularly called ‘wee’.

They are Emmanuel Tefutor, 33, a native of the Volta Region and John Downey, 20, a resident of Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times, the Mile 7 District Police Commander, Superintendent Iddrisu Tanko said on January 17, that at about 8pm, a team of policemen on patrol duties acting on a tip-off, intercepted a taxi cab with registration number AS 74481 driven by Tefutor.

He said the policemen conducted a search of the car and retrieved 70 slabs of plant material suspected to be Indian hemp hidden in the booth of the car.

The commander said upon interrogation, the suspects confirmed ownership of the substance.

Supt. Tanko said the case was under investigation to enable them to arrest other accomplices.
