Asantehemaa’s Burial: Child dazzles with rich cultural display

The best of Ghanaian culture has been on display during the burial rites of the late Queen mother of the Asanteman, Nana Afia Kobi Serwa Ampem II.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwa Ampem II passed away on the 15th of November, 2016 and her death has left the Ashanti Kingdom in a state of mourning.

She is the mother of the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II and has reigned for 39 years. She was enstooled in 1977 as the 13th Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom after the late Nana Serwa Nyarko II.

Her funeral which begun on Monday the 17th of January is scheduled to last until Thursday the 19th of January when she will be buried in the night at the Breman Royal Mausoleum (Ban Mu) after a brief stopover at the Bantama Royal Mausoleum where some traditional rites will be performed.

There has been a massive show of rich Ghanaian culture and Ashanti tradition during the course of the burial rites that has amazed many.
Amongst the many spectacles that have broken social media this week are the videos of two little girls dancing to the sound of the drum in true, Ashanti, Ghanaian rhythm.

The two dancing girls, whose display have caught the eyes of many because of their age and wonderful display are only but a gist of the rich display of culture at the burial rites of the Asantehemaa.

The final funeral rites of Nana Afia Kobi Serwa Ampem II are expected to be organised a year later after the Asantehene has installed a successor to the stool.
