Criticizing Akufo-Addo over new ministries premature – Analyst

A political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mohammed Abass has argued that it is premature for anyone to describe Nana Addo’s newly created ministries as needless.

According to him, one cannot analyze objectively on whether the newly created ministries are good or bad because we have not seen how the president intends to make these ministries work. In his view, we need to seek a lot of information concerning how these new structures are going to work under the office of the president as explained by Nana Akufo-Addo.

‘’This information will help us analyze things in an objective manner,’’ he said. Speaking in an interview Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Mohammed Abass described the newly created ministries as innovative and creative.

He said, the new president has been elected to manage the affairs of state and in managing the affairs of state, he will need structures to work with and ”so that is what we are witnessing. Nana Addo is applying innovation and creativity to the discharge of his duties as president…This is also new therefore, it will be premature to chide him over the newly created ministries.’’

The political scientist also disagreed with those who have said the newly created ministries will drain the economy, questioning the basis for that opinion.

He asked: ‘’what data and information did they use to make that analysis? To him, those making such arguments are only expressing an opinion and not an objective analysis. ‘’It is not an objective analysis. It is only an opinion being expressed. We need to wait and see how they will roll out these things. That will help us to be objective in our analysis.’’

Meanwhile, the president has indicated that these ministries will work under the office of the president.

In his explanation, Nana Addo said: “The six portfolios that are coming out as new portfolios, all these six portfolios will be working under the umbrella or under the aegis of the president. They are not standard ministries that are going to be established, they are all going to function as part of the office of the president. The ministers involved will have their dedicated portfolios and will find their being within the budget of the office of the presidency.’’

The six portfolios include: Monitoring and Evaluation Railway Development Business Development Regional Reorganisation and Development Inner City and Zongo Development Special Development Initiatives
