Ghana and Jamaica Deepen Bilateral Ties with New Opportunities for Nurses, Teachers, and Trade Cooperation

Ghana and Jamaica have announced a significant bilateral partnership aimed at strengthening their historical ties and fostering cooperation across various sectors. The agreement includes the exchange of skilled professionals, with Jamaica ready to receive nurses and teachers from Ghana to support its education and healthcare systems.

This development was unveiled following a high-level meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) summit in Brussels.

Both nations have also agreed to initiate high-level political consultations to deepen cooperation in trade, education, agribusiness, tourism, as well as cultural and sports exchanges. These consultations are expected to pave the way for increased investment, knowledge sharing, and cultural diplomacy.

Minister Ablakwa, who assumed office in February 2025 under President John Mahama’s administration, emphasized the importance of this partnership in expanding the frontiers of the inseparable historical relations between Ghana and Jamaica. He highlighted the mutual commitment to fostering development and strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.

This new partnership is anticipated to create job opportunities, promote cultural integration, and boost economic growth for both Ghana and Jamaica, reaffirming their positions as key allies within the global south.
