Zongo dwellers react to the creation of Zongo ministry

Residents of some Zongo communities in Accra are excited over President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo’s creation of Inner city and Zongo development ministry.

According to them, the move by the president is reflective of his developmental plans for Zongo communities across the country.

Speaking to GhanaWeb, some of the Zongo dwellers said the minister designate, Hon Boniface Abubakar, being one of them, will identify the needs of the Zongo people.

They have however charged the Minister-designate for Inner City and Zongo Development, Hon Boniface to focus on encouraging the youth in the Zongo communities to pursue higher education.

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo has since his appointment of Hon Boniface explained that zongos in Ghana are settlements in the cities mainly populated predominantly by settlers from northern Ghana.

At a press conference held in the Flagstaff House in Accra on Thursday afternoon, President said one of the critical areas of concern for the social cohesion and harmony in the country was the developments taking place in the inner cities and the zongos.
