Tension at Cocobod as Transition Team meets Dr Opuni

There is an uneasy calm at the headquarters of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in Accra as the government Transition Team meets with the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Stephen Opuni, to hand over finally.

Government on Friday asked Dr. Opuni to hand over by 5pm on Friday but as at 5:30pm, the Transition Team was still in the meeting with him. A letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, directed Dr. Opuni to hand over to the president’s representative at the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and this compelled the Team to move in and take over the to them. Onua FM’s Afia Asare, who has been stationed at the headquarters of the COCOBOD, reports that the meeting started around midday and as at 5:30pm, they were still in the meeting.

She reports that Dr. Opuni’s official car was parked at the parking lot of the CEO as at the time of filing this report. Afia reports that the workers had to close leaving the Transition Team and Dr. Opuni in the meeting.
