Egypt and Morocco have qualified for the quarter finals at the ongoing 21st African Cup of Nations finals, at the end of the last group D matches played in Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso Tuesday.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco beat the Pharaons of Egypt 1-0 through 90-minute goal by Mustapha Hadji.
The Egyptians, who had already qualified for the quarter finals before Tuesday’s encounter now rank second in their group. They will meed Cote d’Ivoire, leader in group C Saturday, for a birth in the semi finals stage of the tournement, the continental equivalent of the World Cup.
Morocco, which is leading in group D, will lock horns with South Africa, which ranks second in group C.
These two countries, along with Cameroon and Tunisia are four of the five African countries taking part in the World Cup in France in June. The fifth country, Nigeria, is not participating in the African encounter following a ban slapped on it two years ago.
Two other teams of group D, Zambia and Mozambique, have been eliminated from the competition. They join Algeria, Angola, Ghana, Mozambique, Namibia and Togo.
Their match in Bobo Dioulasso Tuesday ended in 3-1 victory for the Zambians (Half-time 2-0). The Zambian Goals were scored by Roston Kilambe (16th minute), Kalusha Bwalya (44th minute) and Masautso Tembo (73rd minute).
Mozambique’s lone goal in the entire competition came through Adelino in the 48th minute of the encounter.
